CROWDED TEETH

These seriously cute designs are by CROWDED TEETH aka Michelle Romo, a graphic designer currently living and working in Los Angeles. I saw her work on print and pattern blog looking at her websites, you can see what a prolific worker she is. I've been having a conversation with Michelle about how she balances her time between designing and producing - this is a subject i'm dealing with as I am currently writing a plan. It was really great to be able to talk to her and be inspired by her work.

NEW COVENT GARDEN FLOWER MARKET

I got up at 6:00am to visit the flower market, which i must recommend to anyone living in London ! It starts at 3:00 am and it's mainly for trade but it's great to see the amazing range of flowers. Here's a map if you want to visit ...

When I got to the market my camera was broken, which was heart breaking at the time but it turned out well as I draw what i saw instead. Here's a page from my sketch ...

love birds and little chicks

I hope you can see this ? It's a paper-cut card I've made again for friends - ones just got engaged and ones just had a baby - so it's love birds and little chicks. I'm thinking it would be nice as an etching. A girl on my course told me that if you leave a plate in over night you get a "deep burn" which means there is a deboss on the final print. Could be nice Easter cards ?

Congrats to Interactive Wallpaper designer Rachel Kelly on the great shoot in the current issue of Elle Decoration. I was on Rachels course last summer - muchos inspiration !

T-SHIRT DESIGNS

These are potential t-shirt designs. I seem to find it easier to make T-shirt designs as presents for friends ( as these are ) I'm not sure why ? I guess you can design to fit a friends personality.
I think some of these have potential as repeats as well ?


This pears design is very similar to a christmas card by the very talented Lara from kirin notebook. I am aware of this. She is a big influence on me and read her blog regularly. It's great to see how well she is doing. I hope it is seen as flattery ( as it is intended ) and not just copying. I'm not going to do anything with it it was a learning exercise which I'm quite pleased with. So thanks for the inspiration Lara x

NEW YEAR - NEW SET UP

I am spending my time printing and working out how to developing Plush patterns into a business. Above is some recently printing. Below is a shop front I pass on the way to the studio. I wonder if they were thinking about branding and marketing when they designed this ? There is somthing about the style of it that I like - watch this space for development of PLUSH.
This year has seen some exciting changes for me, I am now working my day job as a freelancer. In theory this should give me more time to do printing and making a go of the wallpaper design. In practice, I'm still nervous about money but I will learn to deal with that. BEAUTIFUL CHRISTMAS PRESENTS

A beautiful scarf by one of my heros Jonathan Saunders - given to me by my flatmate & best friend, she knows me well !This is an amazing book I was given for christmas. I can recommned it to everyone for many hours of inspiration. Tord Boontje uses pattern within interiors to cross the line between art and decoration. He sells in habitat and exhibits work in interesting and experiemental ways - many of which are show in this book.

Boontje's studio used to be based in Peckham when I was at university nearby there a few years ago. Now his address on his website is in Paris, I wonder if it's just his PR company or his studio has moved ?
